COACHING PHILOSOPHY

WE HELP YOU ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS

WHY IS COACHING PHILOSOPHY IMPORTANT?

Having a coaching philosophy is important because it can make us better coaches. It makes us examine what we do and why we do it, and as a result we can really establish what the core values of our programme are.

The philosophy you can see below has evolved over several years. Having had the good fortune to work with many excellent players and inspirational coaches (thank you to all of you!) has really shaped our thinking and ideas.

Our coaching philosophy can be summed up as;

“Success is helping juniors to take up squash as a sport for life, where they strive for improvement and play not only with enjoyment, but with determination, perseverance and resilience. We aim to achieve this whilst striving to create an environment where the moral values of honesty, loyalty and respect are encouraged and expected.”

OUR PROMISE

In view of our coaching philosophy and to stay true to its principles, we aim to make a positive impact on every player that we coach. Above all, we aim to provide the best coaching service that we can, regardless of age or standard.

With this in mind we promise all of our clients an individualised and focused service without parallel.

SUPPORTIVE

We will make every effort to find new ways to teach every client in a way that helps them learn as quickly as possible. Finding new coaching methods to become more effective in coaching is key to our coaching approach.

RELIABLE

We guarantee that we will be reliable in all forms of communication and coaching. We aim to be 15 minutes early for each session that we run and will always do what we can to support our players.

KNOWLEDGEABLE

We keep up-to-date on new coaching ideas by research, and collaboration with other coaches. This, alongside our experience as a player and coach for 30 years, has helped hone our technical, tactical and psychological knowledge.

Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them.

OUR PRINCIPLES

PROGRESSION

We ensure that each player works at an appropriate level for their ability, so that everyone can achieve success. We do this by encouraging players to set "Personal Bests" and beat themselves, as well as others.

POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT

We focus on providing our players with positive feedback not negative, because we want our players to focus on the way it should feel. We also value and praise effort over talent, to encourage our players to reach their potential.

INNOVATIVE

A key aim of ours is to find new ways to teach and develop skills, so that every client learns as quickly as possible. Finding new methods to become more effective as coaches is vital to our approach.

SELF-DETERMINATION

At Squashdynamics, our players are allowed to make choices and decisions over their squash. We do this by encouraging players to set their own goals, and take ownership of both their practise and matchplay.

PLAYER-CENTRED APPROACH

In our sessions, the needs and wants of the player are our primary consideration. We encourage athletes to take ownership of their learning, to develop leadership, independence and decision-making.

GAME SENSE

This method helps players develop problem solving in a game context. Games are modified by adapting either the scoring or rules, the playing area or the restrictions on the player.
